The most beautiful chair of the century In 1926 Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed, in the truest sense of the word, from the wrist, the most beautiful chair of the century: the Weißenhof chair. A year later, in 1927, it was presented to the public at the Weissenhof exhibition in Stuttgart. The first drafts were created under the impression of the gas tube chair without back legs by the architect Mart Stam. Sergius Ruegenberg reported in 1985 about the development of the Weißenhof chair: »Mies came back from Stuttgart in November 1926 and told us about Mart Stam and his chair idea.
