We wanted to work on the bathroom space, specific to the time of morning or evening. An elegant light for an object that plays with intimacy. • Patrick Jouin

Patrick Jouin is a graduate of the ?cole Nationale de Création Industrielle (ENSCI), he founded his agency in the 11th arrondissement in Paris in 1998. From year to year and project to project—interior design, product and furniture design, exhibition design, and architecture—the agency has grown into a reference on the international stage. Patrick Jouin stands out through his elegant, clean style designed to serve the project: the quest for balance between tradition and innovation leads to luminous, enchanted designs. Patrick Jouin happily experiments working with designers of all horizons: his life-changing meeting with French chef Alain Ducasse is behind restaurants known for being “the most beautiful in the world” – the Plaza Athénée (Paris), the 59 Poincaré (Paris), the Chlösterli-Spoon (Gstaad), the Spoon Byblos (Saint Tropez), the Mix (Las Vegas) – Cassina, Alessi, Kartell, and Ligne Roset produce his furniture. He bewitches materials — plastics, crystal, porcelain, aluminium, and wood undergo the most astonishing transformations in his hands. Taste and close attention to technique is one of the permanent characteristics of Patrick Jouin’s designs. He joyfully experiments with the transformations that techniques can bring about in an objects’ very structure: in 2005, the series of chairs in stereolithography, Solid, revolutionised the design world.
