Gunnar Biilmann Petersen is one of the most important figures in the history of Danish design. He trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' School of Decorative Art and went on to work as an architect. However, his most prominent contribution to the world of art was in the field of graphic arts. His work is eclectic, ranging from graphics, posters, bank notes and company logos to the layout of Jens Olsen's World Clock in Copenhagen City Hall. Parallel with work in his design studio, Biilmann Petersen was involved in teaching and research, and in 1951 he was appointed the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' first Professor of Design. Biilmann Petersen's output also included many proposed designs for LE KLINT table lamps, some of which are still in the product range.
