Marian Bantjes
Marian Bantjes is an internationally known graphic artist who lives and works on an island off the West coast of Canada, near Vancouver. Her work, which takes many forms, is a manifestation of obsession, beauty, complexity and surprise. She works using a variety of media, from drawing and painting, to digital graphics, to arrangements of objects. Her work often incorporates words, but not always, and often incorporates patterns, but not always. An extensive monograph of her work,‘Pretty Pictures’ was published byThames & Hudson in the fall of 2013, to critical acclaim, and was included by Bookforum as one of the 20 best art books in the past 20 years. Her 2010 book ‘I Wonder’ (published by Thames & Hudson, 2010) is an exploration of the marriage of word and image, written and illuminated throughout: alternately mysterious, thoughtful, personal and funny. Along with several other pieces or her work, it is included in the permanent collection of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum (Smithsonian) in New York. Much of Marian’s work has been published in books and magazines around the world.
